E. TARGET: Advanced Clinical Reasoning in Action

Presented by Patricia Oetter, MA, OTR/L, FAOTA
Friday-Saturday, February 26-27, 2016
13 contact hours
Advanced Level
Audience: Occupational Therapists

Read a case study on the TARGET
Integrating multiple frames of reference requires advanced clinical reasoning and the ability to prioritize, plan, personalize and track progress for individual children. The TARGET provides a form and a format for this process.

This is an advanced course for OT's with pediatric experience in the use of a variety of treatment approaches.  It is limited in size to promote group discussion around the TARGET as it applies to a variety of treatment videos.

The TARGET is a comprehensive format for collecting and organizing assessment data from tests, observations, histories and questionnaires.  This format helps the therapist prioritize areas that need addressing in treatment and plan the sequence of treatment.

The TARGET can help families and others see the relationships between original concerns and underlying causes.  Goals can then be generated together and progress tracked together.

Objectives: Participants will be able to:
  1. Describe the TARGET relative to its purpose and use
  2. Plot assessment, intake and treatment observation data
  3. Prioritize and generate treatment goals
  4. Plan a course of treatment
  5. Use the TARGET to follow and document progress
